If you’re looking for a bold, smoky, and spicy bite-sized BBQ treat, these Hot Link Sliders are where it’s at. Perfect for game days, 4th of July celebrations, or just because you want to bring the heat to your backyard cookout.
Today, we’re working with both regular hot links and some XX Hot Links — yep, we’re mixing the heat with the flavor for the ultimate slider. Let me walk you through how we threw this together on the Big Green Egg.
???? Step 1: Prepping the Links
We started with two pounds of sausage — one pound of regular hot links and one pound of the extra spicy stuff. These get chopped into 1–2 inch chunks. The idea is to get good caramelization and smoky flavor in each bite.
???? Step 2: Get the Big Green Egg Hot
We fired up the Big Green Egg to about 250–300°F using lump charcoal and threw on a nice-sized hickory wood chunk for that signature smoke. Once the temp held steady, it was time to throw the chopped hot links straight on the grate.
Grilled them for about 30 minutes, flipping halfway through to get even color. Some pieces cooked a little more than others, but that variety just adds to the texture.
???? Step 3: Sauce & Seasoning Time
After a solid smoke session, we moved everything into foil and started building the flavor:
- Yellow mustard (just a touch – it’s just a binder)
- Boar’s Night Out White Lightning Double Garlic (our current go-to)
- JB’s BBQ Sauce – not measuring, just eyeballing. Go with what feels right.
- Brown sugar and butter to balance out the heat
Wrap it up tight and back on the grill for another 15 minutes to get everything sticky, melty, and delicious.
???? Step 4: Build the Sliders
After a quick rest, we toasted some slider buns and started assembling:
- Pile on the sausage mix
- Press it down a little to let the sauce melt into the bread
- (Optional) Use hoagie rolls if you’re feelin’ fancy
Let me tell you — the smell alone will have folks lined up.
???? Perfect for the 4th (or Any Cookout)
This one dropped just in time for Independence Day, but honestly, it’s perfect anytime you want a crowd-pleaser with some kick. Whether you’re serving these up at a summer cookout or tailgate, these hot link sliders are guaranteed to steal the show.
