You always hear about smashed burgers and how great they are cooked on a flat tap, but what about making some smashed burger tacos?
The process is really the same as if you were using a bun, but with flour tortillas instead. After trying this for the first time, it will be in rotation at our dinner table from now on.
This recipe is simple, just some beef, cheese, and seasoning! Adding vegetables and other toppings is endless and you can make it spicy, loaded, or simple.
Smashed Burger Tacos

Ground beef on a tortilla with some melted cheese and fold. It couldn't be any easier to make!
Ingredients
- 4 Flour or corn tortillas
- 1 Pound of 80/20 ground beef
- 4 Slices of American Cheese
- Salt and Pepper or SPG
- Sliced pickles
- Mustard
Instructions
- Preheat the griddle on medium heat until hot or about 10 minutes.
- Create 4 small balls with the ground beef so that they are equally divided amongst your 1-pound meat. If you have exactly 2 pounds, this would be 1/4 pound each or about 113 grams per ball.
- Season the beef balls around the entire outside of them moving them around while adding.
- Place the beef balls on the heated griddle about 6 to 8 inches apart.
- Place tortillas on top of the beef balls.
- Using a griddle press, firmly press down on the tortilla until they are pressed into the hamburger meat. Make them very thin and it is ok if the meat is over the edges of the tortilla.
- Cook for about 2 to 3 minutes and flip the burger taco using a spatula.
- Add a slice of cheese to each taco you want cheese added to.
- Cook 2 to 3 more minutes while watching to make sure your tortilla doesn't burn. Browning them well however is great!
- Remove from the griddle to place.
- Add a pickle or other toppings you choose.
- Add mustard and serve.
Notes
This is a simple and basic version of what can be an adventurous taco. Imagine adding jalapenos, mushrooms, or onions to it. Even better if you sauteed them on the griddle while preparing the taco.
