When it comes to the holidays one of my favorites has always been pumpkin pie. You simply grab a piece of it, dash some cool whip on top and it is great!
Making a pumpkin pie however from scratch can be a challenge, especially when you look at some recipes calling for so many ingredients!
Therefore for this pie, I love it being just the basics. Only 5 ingredients, 1 pie shell, and a smoker are all you need to create a perfect pumpkin pie for the holidays. In fact, this is so easy you will want to make it year-round.
Smoked Pumpkin Pie

Simple and easy, yet elevated pie that is cooked outdoors on the smoker.
Ingredients
- 15 oz can pure pumpkin (not pie mix)
- 14 oz can of sweet condensed milk
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie mix seasoning
- 1 unbaked deep dish pie crust (found in the frozen section of your supermarket).
Instructions
- Prepare your smoker by preheating it to 325 degrees. I used a Weber Smokey Mountain to cook this pie.
- Add smoking wood chips to your fire. Hickory was used in this cook, but pecan and apple would add great flavor to this pumpkin pie as well.
- Prepare Your Pie Mix: Add the pumpkin, condensed milk, eggs, and seasoning into a bowl and mix well. You can use a whisk, but an electric mixer will come in handy if you have one available for this step.
- Pour the mixed ingredients into an unbaked 9-inch deep dish pan.
- Place your pie on the top grate of the smoker. Cook for 50 to 60 minutes or until the pie is golden brown. Check doneness by inserting a knife or toothpick in the center of the pie. When you remove it if it is clean, the pie is done.
- Allow the pie to cool for at least 2 hours before serving.
Notes
- If using a Weber Smokey Mountain, do not use the water pan for this cook. This will allow the temperature to heat up above 300 degrees much quicker and give it a more oven-like cook.
- You can use plain charcoal, but if you want a real smokey flavor you will want to some some good wood chunks. Hickory is what I used, but pecan would add great flavor to this pie as well,.
Don’t forget to add some toppings to this pie. While a spoonful of Cool Whip or whipped cream compliments it well, you can add pecans, walnuts, caramel and so much more!
